My CF Climb Story
Meredith Butschek
Meredith Butschek
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I’m climbing to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
I was married to Jeramy who was diagnosed at the age of 9 with CF. When we met and married, he was doing well health wise. Unfortunately, about 15 months after being married Jeramy needed a lung transplant. He was placed on the list and was number 2 out of 5 patients needing a transplant. With 1 day short of being on the list for 3 months Jeramy received the call that he was receiving lungs. On November 9, 2016, he had his transplant. Unfortunately, on March 17, 2018, Jeramy went back into the hospital and at the time we thought it was a tune up. He never left the hospital; he was placed on ECMO and lived almost the last 3 months of his life in the hospital. Jeramy passed away on June 13, 2018, due to acute rejection.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
