As a member of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Tomorrow’s Leaders committee, I am honored to be joining the NY Elite program, committed to raising money towards finding a cure for CF. This year I am backing the Cystic Fibrosis NY Chapter’s Toast to Tomorrow’s event. This fun food and drink event will take place at Versa NYC on October 9, 2024. 

As many of you know, my mom, Stacy, was a Cystic Fibrosis warrior. Born in 1964 as one of four (three of whom had CF) my mom, her sister and her brother fought hard to battle this terrible disease they were diagnosed with at birth. 

Given a life expectancy of 15 years old, my mom was determined to beat the odds, and she did just that. She went on to have three healthy children, something nearly unheard of at the time. 

My brother, sister and I were so lucky to have had the strongest woman and role model as our mother. Despite the daily medications, lung treatments, and frequent hospital visits, she never gave up or lost sight of her biggest priorities- being there for her family and finding a cure for this terrible disease. 

Some of my fondest childhood memories involve watching my mom speak at various Cystic Fibrosis events and fundraisers, sharing her story and fighting for the cure she dreamed to one day see. I was in awe of her strength, determination and positivity. In 2004 my mom won the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Alex Award. This award is given to someone with Cystic Fibrosis who serves as a role model for others with the disease. 

Unfortunately, in 2009, this terrible disease took our mother from us at the age of 44. Not a day goes by where we do not think of and miss her. My family and I vowed to follow in mom’s footsteps and do exactly what she would have wanted us to do - keep fighting for a cure.
