Hello, my name is Matthew Hamburger.  I was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at eight weeks old.  I am now 34 years old and remain hopeful that one day CF will stand for “cure found.”

I have two nonsense mutations, which make me ineligible for current CFTR modulators such as Trikafta. I have participated in clinical trials to help advance treatments for the remaining 10% of patients without an available modulator.  While life with CF can be challenging, I am determined not to let it define or defeat me.

Despite living with a chronic, life-shortening disease, I lead a very full and meaningful life. In 2022, I married my beautiful wife, Alyssa, who works as a pediatric nurse practitioner.  Upon finding out our family would be doubling in size, we moved out of DC and now reside in Bethesda, Maryland, where I work full-time for the Treasury Department.  In April 2025, we welcomed our twins, Avi and Remy, a dream I was never sure would come true.

In my spare time, I enjoy cooking international dishes and cheering for my favorite teams, the Ravens, Terps, and Orioles.  The generosity and support of the CF community have helped me reach many milestones. I know that together we can finish this fight and find a cure.
