I ROSE UP for all people with CF!
Laura Riccio
Rose Up is in its 5th year as a virtual fundraiser (see SOME good things did rise up out of Covid!)
I ask you to please accept the challenge and donate to this fundraiser. The goal is to raise $555,555 in the next 48 hours (not just by me, so do not feel too pressured to donate!)
As many of you are aware, while I have Cystic Fibrosis, I am doing well -- and it is thanks to the generosity of donors who have raised the funds that have been made available to research. That research has led to two medications that I take daily that help keep me doing well. Zithromax -- you know, the drug you take as a "Z-Pack" to get rid of your sinus infections? Well, the scientists who received funding from the CF Foundation discovered that in addition to being an effective antibiotic, it has amazing anti-inflammatory qualities. That result helps keep inflammation at bay for many of us with CF. I also take Kalydeco - it was a wholly newly created drug (thanks Vertex Pharmaceuticals!!) that took 30 years in production. I have been taking it for over 7 years and it causes my defective cells to better regulate the CFTR proteins that prevent me from getting so congested. So THANK YOU for your generosity!! The CF Foundation is a very financially sound charity in that it uses approximately 92% of every dollar donated to fund research instead of parties. That research has helped Vertex create three additional drugs since Kalydeco which have different effects for people who have different "defective" genes from the two I have. An even newer drug is due out from Vertex in the next few months that may be even more incredible in treating people with CF. Again, Thank you!!!
All that research was only possible due to donors like you! We are hoping that someday we can say that "CF" stands for "Cure Found". I thank you for helping that to happen. Please donate what you can, and please do not hesitate to share my page and get the word out. For my RoseUp activity, I will be heading to my basement to make use of my Peloton -- and exercise the lungs which I need to keep healthy!
